Biography

Andrea Hayes swam for the United States as a backstroker at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Her best international meet ever was the 1985 Pan Pacific Championships, when she won gold in the 200 backstroke and silver in the 100 back. In 1987 Hayes won another Pan Pac silver in the 200 back. She also competed at the 1986 Goodwill Games. Hayes grew up in Pensacola, Florida, but attended the University of Texas, where she helped them win three NCAA team titles, and was a 16-time All-American. She later became the co-chair of Swim Across America Dallas, a regional partner of Swim Across America, which is a charitable fundraising organization. In 2016 Hayes was inducted into the Longhorn Women’s Hall of Honor.
