Biography

Albina Lucy OSIPOWICH

Albina Osipowich placed only third in the 100m freestyle at the 1928 Final Trials, but she went on to win a gold medal in Amsterdam with a new world record. She also won a gold medal in the relay when the U.S. bettered the world record. After the Olympics, Miss Osipowich won two AAU titles indoors and set a national and world record for the 100m freestyle. She attended Pembroke College of Brown University, where she played field hockey and continued to swim as a hobby. After college she worked briefly as a buyer for a department store before marrying Brown basketball star, Harrison Van Aken.
