Viktor Miroshnichenko won his first medal, a bronze as a flyweight, at the 1978 Soviet Championships. In 1980, Miroshnichenko won his only Soviet title and was selected for the 1980 Soviet Olympic team. At the Olympics, Miroshnichenko reached the final, where he lost to Bulgarian Petar Lesov by TKO and had to settle for a silver medal. In 1981 Miroshnichenko switched to bantamweight and won his only international title, winning the European Championship. In 1982 Miroshnichenko reached the final of the World Championships, but lost to American Floyd Favors by decision and again had to settle for a silver medal. Miroshnichenko won his last Soviet Championship medal, a bronze, in 1984 and retired from boxing after that with a record of 180 wins out of 202 bouts.
