Tracey MCFARLANE

Tracey McFarlane was a breaststroker who swam for the University of Texas. In college she led Texas to four consecutive NCAA and Southwest Conference (SWC) team titles. She was Texas swimming MVP in 1987 and 1988, and won the NCAA 100 yard breaststroke title in 1985, 1987, and 1988. McFarlane was named to the SWC All-Decade team for the 1980s. Born in Montréal, but with dual citizenship, McFarlane started competing for Canada internationally, but is best known for her later efforts for the United States. McFarlane won silver for the US in the medley relay at the 1988 Olympics. At the 1989 Pan Pacific Championships she won silver in the 100 breaststroke and bronze in the 200 breaststroke. She also won a gold medal in the medley relay with the United States’ team at the 1991 World Championships.

McFarlane graduated from Texas in 1989 with a degree in psychology. She later earned a masters’ degree in physical therapy from the University of Central Florida in 2002. McFarlane was inducted into the University of Texas Athletics Hall of Fame in 2006.
