Biografie

A speed skater since the age of 10, Shannon Rempel has been athletically active her entire life, competing in track, volleyball and basketball in high school in addition to her winter pursuits. Her first major competition occurred during the 1997-1998 as a participant in the 500 m event at the Canadian Junior Sprint Championships. She began competing in North American Championships during the 1998-1999 season and World Junior Championships the following season and, by the end of 2004 had four bronze, two silver and four gold medals, including claiming the overall title in 2003. She discovered Olympic success at the 2006 Winter Games when she won a silver medal in the women's team pursuit event, although she did not participate in the final. She followed this with a gold medal in the same event at the following year's World Championships. She is a general studies student at the University of Calgary.

Personal Bests: 500 – 37.80 (2005); 1000 – 1:15.00 (2007); 1500 – 1:54.60 (2007); 3000 – 4:09.78 (2008); 5000 – 7:12.16 (2009).
