At the 1964 Olympics, Khokhashvili won a bronze medal, after losing again to Watanabe and drawing with Stancho Ivanov. After the Olympics, Khokhashvili switched to lightweight and won 1969 European Championships silver and 1969 World Championships bronze in that class.
