Song Jae-Geun was the least heralded member of the South Korean team that won the gold medal in the 5,000 m relay at the 1992 Winter Games. Team mates Lee Jun-Ho and Kim Gi-Hun earned individual Olympic medals, while Mo Ji-Su placed second at that year's World Championships. Song would claim his major individual success in 1995, when he shared the overall third place in the World Championships. Earlier, he had won a world title with the Korean team (1992), earning silver in 1991 and 1995. After his active career, Song worked as a short track coach, working his way up to coach the Korean national team in 2005.
