Biografie

Decathlete Horst Beyer came in sixth at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics with the mixed german team and withdraw eight years later after the shot put in Munich 1972. He won decathlon bronze at the 1966 European Championships. In 1969 he was chosen for the 110 m hurdles at the European Championships, but did not start due to the West German boycott. In 1970 and 1972 he won the German nationals, having placed second in 1964-66 and 1969. Horst was awarded the 1972 Rudolf Harbig Memorial Award, and received the "Silberne Lorbeerblatt" (Silver Bay Leaf) in 1967.

Beyer was a qualified motor mechanic, then technical trader, but later worked as a graduate sports teacher at the Liebig gymnasium in Frankfurt.
