Biografie

Giorgio Rossi was mostly a track cyclist. After winning Italian youth titles, he competed as an amateur in the sprint, tandem, and kilo time trial. Rossi won 41 Italian titles in those events, indoor and outdoor. He took part at two Olympics. In 1972 in the tandem, he and Dino Verzini were eliminated in the quarter-finals. Four years later in Montréal Rossi raced the sprint, placing eighth.

Rossi competed at many World Track Championships with the highlight coming in 1975 when he was the runner-up in the sprint behind Daniel Morelon, also winning a bronze medal at Montréal in 1974. In 1980, alongside the non-Olympian Floriano Finamore, Rossi won a World bronze medal in the tandem.

In his career Rossi was a 10-time champion at the Europe Grand Prix, winning the Milano Grand Prix four times, and garnering one win each at the Grand Prix’s of Italy, København, Poland, Torino and Paris. In his later years he became a technician with his club and for the national team.
