Biografie

Georges Wambst came from a family with four well-known competitive cyclists, but Georges’s career was the strongest in the family. Prior to the 1924 Olympics, he had placed 8th at the 1923 World Road Championships for amateurs. He turned professional after the Paris Olympic Games, winning Paris-Rouen in 1925. But his biggest achievements came on the boards, as he rode frequently in six-day races, winning at least six major races between 1926 and 1929, including the Six-Days of Paris and Berlin in 1926 and of Paris and Nice in 1928. Later in his career he turned to motor-paced racing, winning the French Championship in 1940. His brother, Auguste, was French motor-paced champion in 1935, while another brother, Fernand Wambst, won six-days races in Indianapolis in 1938 and Buenos Aires in 1942.
