Biografie

A 200 specialist, Galina Malchugina was also an essential member of the Soviet and Russian 4x100 relay teams. She competed at three Olympic Games, winning a 4x100 relay bronze in 1988, silver in 1992, and placed fourth with the Russian team in 1996. Individually she was eighth in the 200 in 1988 and 1992, and fifth in 1996. Her other titles included the 200 gold at the 1989 Universiade and the 1994 European Indoors, and 1993 World Championship in the 4x100. She won at least 10 lesser medals at various internationals. Malchugina won the 1994 Russian 200 title and the 1996 100 title. After finishing her sports career, Malchugina worked as an athletics coach. Her daughter Yuliya Chermoshanskaya also became a top level sprinter, who won a 2008 Olympic 4x100 relay gold medal.

Personal Bests: 100 – 10.96 (1992); 200 – 22.18 (1996).
