Biografie

Middle-distance runner Christiane Stoll was eliminated in the semifinals of the 1,500 metres at the 1976 Montréal Olympics and then married long jumper Frank Wartenberg in 1977. At the 1980 Moskva Olympics she won a silver medal. She participated at the 1983 Worlds, the 1979 (fourth) and 1983 (second) European Cups, the 1975 and 1978 European Indoors, and won the 1979 World Cup. Domestically she won East German Championships in the 1,500 in 1979, 1980 and 1983, also winning indoors in 1975, 1980, 1983 and 1984.

After the end of her sports career Christiane Wartenberg studied sports science and worked as a district physical education teacher in Wittenberg. Their daughter Anne Wartenberg became a 400 and 800 runner. In 1986 she gave birth to twins, two girls (Jennifer and Janine). Later, Christiane became head of a children’s and youth center in Wittenberg, and then worked as a social worker in general social services (youth welfare office) in Wittenberg.
