Biografie

After winning a silver medal at the 1960 Olympics, losing to American Wilbert McClure in the final match, Carmelo Bossi turned professional in early 1961 and had a long career, fighting through 1971. His professional record was 40 wins, 8 losses, and 3 draws. His first match was against Isidoro Princic in Milano on 4 March 1961, which he won when Princic was disqualified in the second round. In 1965 Bossi defeated Domenico Tiberia for the Italian welterweight title. On 17 May 1967 Bossi won a 15-round decision in San Remo over Jean Josselin for the European welterweight title. He defended that title twice and then lost it on 14 August 1968 against Fighting Mack in Milano. After winning the European title, Bossi twice fought for the world welterweight title in South Africa in later 1967, losing both bouts to Willie Ludick on points. Bossi struggled in his last competitive years, losing 4 of his last 8 bouts.
