Andrew Hancock SUDDUTH

Andrew Sudduth grew up in Exeter, New Hampshire and started rowing at Phillips Exeter Academy. He attended Harvard University, graduating in 1983. He led his Harvard crew to the Grand Challenge Cup at Henley, but after college, began sculling. In addition to his Olympic silver medal, he won a bronze in eights at the 1986 World Championships and pulled a single to a silver medal at the 1985 World Championships. Sudduth rowed on the US National Team for eight years and won four medals at the World Championships. He became a legend at the Head of the Charles Regatta, winning the singles for five consecutive years, and was also known for his ergometer records at the CRASH-B sprints. When his rowing career faded, he turned to long-distance cycling to stay in shape. Sudduth’s career was in computers, and he helped develop server technology that was instrumental to the success of the Internet. He died fairly young from pancreatic cancer.
