Andrei KOVALENKO

Andrey Kovalenko began his hockey career in 1987 with Torpedo Gorky (now Nizhny Novgorod) and in 1988 joined CSKA Moskva, playing there until 1992. With CSKA Moskva Kovalenko won Soviet titles in 1989 and European Champions Cup titles in 1989-90. In 1992 he joined the NHL Quebec Nordiques, playing there until 1995. Kovalenko then spent one season with the Montreal Canadiens, before playing with the Edmonton Oilers (1996-98), Philadelphia Flyers (1998-99), Carolina Hurricanes (1999-2000) and Boston Bruins (2000-01). After his final season with the Bruins, Kovalenko returned to Russia and played from 2001-04 with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, from 2004-06 with Avangard Omsk, and finished his career from 2006-08 with Severstal Cherepovets. In 2002 and 2003 Kovalenko won Russian titles with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, while in 2005 he won a European Champions Cup title with Avangard Omsk. In 2002 he was also named MVP of the Russian Championships. Internationally, besides his two Olympic medals, Kovalenko won silver at the 2002 World Championships, gold at the 1990 Goodwill Games and bronze at the 1996 World Cup. Kovalenko also played for Russia at the 1992, 1994 and 2000 World Championships and was on the 2004 Russian World Cup team.
