Why I am running in the IOC Athletes’ Commission election

We’re now making our Olympic history in Tokyo. It is time to hand over our history to the children who to compete at future Olympic Games. To make the Games sustainable, we must maintain the value of all sports.

However, recently, we are facing many global challenges which may risk our sustainability. Environment (waste disposal, global warming), Society (inequality, racism), Ethics (doping, harassment), Economy (large consumption, unused venues).

Since I have been involved in sport federations, I started to cope with these challenges. The most recent project I organised was the FIE World Fencing Day. The theme of this year was “Fencing for our planet”. So I organised an event on this day in Japan to share views on SDGs with 150 athletes and administrators.

If I receive the honor to become a member of this Commission, I’d like to contribute to the IOC aims by collaborating with the organisers of Paris and LA, focusing on working for these challenges by reflecting the voices of athletes. I am sure that the next two Games will prove that the Olympic Games are sustainable.
