Why did I want to be a member of the IOC Athletes’ Commission?

I wanted to be a member of the IOC Athletes’ Commission because I love the Olympic Movement and hope to devote my life to it.

In my sports career, I experienced not only success and glory, but also hard work, difficulties and frustration. I felt that it was the right time to share my experience and knowledge with the young athletes.

What do the Olympic Games mean to me?

In Athens, it was so special. It was my second Olympics, and I won gold with my very last attempt. That was very special and I will never forget it.

In Beijing, it was a different situation as I was the favourite. The crowd was amazing – they were clapping, screaming and just waiting for the world record. I started telling myself, ‘OK, just believe that it will happen’. And it did, so of course that was also emotional for me.

Role in the AC

It is my goal to share my experience and knowledge with athletes to help them grow. My education enabled me to have a career in sport and that’s why I support the development of the IOC’s education platform on Athlete365.

Getting to know
Yelena Isinbaeva
It’s the time to stand for athletes’ rights to make sure your voices are heard, especially for female athletes in all sports.
I'd love the athletes of the world to know a little bit more about the programmes that the IOC has to offer – there's some really terrific advice and programmes that exist on Athlete365.
We need to make sure that we take care of each other, and that there is support for athletes not only while you chase your dreams during your career, but also when it’s time to transition into a new life
