Why I am running in the IOC Athletes’ Commission election
Today is the 6th September 2019 with the submission deadline being 9th September. To be honest I initially thought why bother, as being from a small nation (Cyprus) decreases my chances of being in the 4 athletes elected. However, an inner voice, an inner responsibility pushes me to write this. Why? Because I strongly believe that athletes need a strong voice, strong statements, strong arguments, innovative ways of going forward inside the IOC. I always felt that athletes are considered last when important decisions are made. Olympic Games, media rights, sponsors, endorsements – everything exists because of us, decision makers should realise that, appreciate it, respect it and act accordingly. With Tokyo being my 4th Olympic Games, with more than 13 years in elite level sport travelling around the world, with a bachelor’s in engineering ship science and a master’s degree in sports business, I strongly believe I deserve your trust and vote. Vote for the Athletes, for your present and your future.
