Why I am running in the IOC Athletes’ Commission election
Dear Athletes,
I am a 33-yr-old Irish field hockey player, a goalkeeper with SV Kampong (NL), and for the last decade have been a professional athlete, earning 225 international caps. In 2015 and 2016, I won the accolade FIH World’s Best Goalkeeper. I am secretary of the EOC AC and wish to represent you on the IOC AC.
I believe strongly in providing equal opportunities for all athletes to support a successful Olympic campaign regardless of their background. Throughout my career I have encountered athletes who have faced conflicting and difficult issues within their sporting lives. The athlete’s well-being is key. I am approachable, a strong communicator and can help to resolve many issues.
My experience includes strategic planning, budgeting, sponsorship, media relations and athlete development programmes. As team captain at Rio 2016 and World Cup 2018, honesty, trustworthiness and mutual respect were key to my leadership.
I would be honoured and humbled to be part of the IOC AC and would welcome the opportunity to work hard and make a difference.
