WHAT IS YOUR SPORTING BACKGROUND?

As a judoka, I represented Puerto Rico at the Olympic Games at Sydney 2000. Throughout my sporting career, I participated at two Pan American Games – Winnipeg 1999 and Guadalajara 2011 – and won several medals at international tournaments.

WHAT HAVE YOU ACHIEVED AWAY FROM COMPETITION?

I studied physical education at the University of Puerto Rico and completed the MEMOS executive masters in Sports Organisation Management.

Besides being a teacher of physical education, I handle various judo projects, focusing on protecting vulnerable communities from criminal activity. For these projects I use the power of sport as an opportunity to improve the participants’ lives.

Roles within the Olympic movement
  • Chair of the Athletes’ Commission of Puerto Rico (present)
  • Member of the Athletes’ Commission Panam Sports (2015-present)
  • The Americas Liaison for the IOC Athletes’ Commission (2019-present)
WHY DID YOU WANT TO BECOME INVOLVED IN ATHLETE365 CAREER+?

I love educating and sharing my experience with other athletes. This programme is fundamental in preparing athletes for their future. I am committed to helping athletes to navigate their life after sport.
