Chair of Norwegian NOC Athletes’ Commission
Elected to the IOC Athletes Commission
Why did I want to be a member of the IOC Athletes’ Commission?
I stood for election in 2018 because I thought I could make a difference for athletes worldwide with my combined experience from being part of an excellent performing sports-team, being politically involved nationally and undergoing studies at university. The result barely went in my disfavour, but I continued doing more political work for athletes nationally the years following. When I got this chance it was impossible to say no.
What do the Olympic Games mean to me?
It has been the biggest event of my sporting career, both in the desire of performing at my very best level on the field of play and getting to know the international community of athletes, coaches and teams. The games has always had a special place and meaning in my career.
Role in the IOC Athletes’ Commission?
I’m excited to see what this new role will be. I’ve been thinking that I would need some time to get to know both the system and the people before I start working towards some specific goals. In the political work in Norway I’ve been focusing on the rights and conditions of top-athletes, including social rights, facilitation of education and dual careers, equality and fair play.
