Climate change is increasingly affecting the global athlete community, with rising temperatures and extreme weather conditions across the globe making it harder to practise winter sports and causing some summer competitions to take place in extreme heat and humidity. As athletes and role models within your community, you can lead by example and inspire others to make sustainable changes.

That’s why we’re launching the IOC Climate Action Awards, an initiative supported by Worldwide Olympic Partners (TOP) Airbnb, Deloitte and P&G to celebrate the initiatives that athletes and other Olympic Movement stakeholders have been implementing in the areas of sustainable travel, innovation and advocacy.

There are three award categories:
Climate Action x Sustainable Travel

Have you worked to make your sports calendar-related travel more sustainable?

Airbnb is recognising innovative action and leadership to travel more sustainably during the sports calendar, and you could receive USD 7,500 in Airbnb Travel Credits to fund accommodations expenses.

This award is open to Olympians and Paralympians. The IOC will provide your NOCs and IFs with separate information on how they can apply for this award category for their organisations.

Climate Action x Innovation

Do you have an innovative project aimed at reducing your carbon footprint?

Deloitte want to reward those of you who are showcasing innovative ways to reduce emissions and educating others on how to create more sustainable futures. You could receive tuition of up to USD 5,000 to enrol on an academic course in sustainability and leadership.

This award is open to Olympians and Paralympians. The IOC will provide your NOCs and IFs with separate information on how they can apply for this award category for their organisations.

Climate Action x Athlete Advocacy

Are you passionate about giving back and working with an organisation focused on sustainability?

As part of their Athletes for Good programme, P&G are celebrating your commitment to encouraging individuals and communities to take action on climate change.  Share your story and the cause close to your heart on a global platform, and you could be given a P&G ambassadorship and a USD 24,000 grant to give to a charity of your choosing.

This award is open only to athletes training for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024.

Applications for each award are open until March 2023, and all applicants will be informed about their application status before September 2023. The winning athletes and organisations will be notified and invited to an Award Ceremony that will take place in 2023.
