A three-time Nordic combined Olympian, Tom Sandberg improved at each Games, finishing eighth in 1976, fourth in 1980, and winning the gold medal in 1984 at Sarajevo. Sandberg was also World Champion in 1982 in the individual event, and helped Norway win gold in the team event at the 1984 World Championships, also winning a World team silver in 1982. Sandberg was Holmenkollen Champion in 1974, and during his career won nine Norwegian titles. In 1983 he received the Holmenkollen medal, shared with Berit Aunli. Sandberg was educated at the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences.
