Robert Lindsay of Blackheath Harriers was on the threshold of top-class athletics when his career was interrupted by World War I. He finished fourth in the 440 y at the 1911 AAA Championships and won three Scottish 440y titles in the years immediately prior to the war. In 1914 he was also the Scottish Champion at 220 yards. As a finalist in the 1920 AAA Championship 440 yards, Lindsay was selected for the relay team that won the Olympic gold medal in Antwerp, but his best performance came the following year when he defeated the Olympic champion, Bevil Rudd (RSA), to take the 1921 AAA title.
Personal Bests: 220y – 22.8 (1914); 440y – 50.4 (1921).
