Kevin Asano attended San Jose State University, graduating in 1990 with a degree in accounting. While there he was twice US intercollegiate judo champion. Asano won a silver medal at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, but his greatest year was 1987 when he won the US International Championships, the US intercollegiate title, a silver at the Pan American Games and bronze at the World Championships.
After his judo career ended Asano founded Pacific Wealth Strategies, a financial planning firm, and also served as president of Hawai’i Judo and as President of the US Judo Federation. He later worked with Pacific Rim Legacy Group LLC, a wealth management organization, and was the co-founder of Personal Transformation International, a non-profit organization committed to transforming individuals by helping them find their life’s calling. Asano was inducted into the USA Judo Hall of Fame in 2008 in its inaugural class. He is also a member of the Hawai’i Sports Hall of Fame and the San Jose State University Sports Hall of Fame.
